Lecture: Introduction to Language and Linguistics

And so it ends...

Dear All,

Many thanks for your cooperation and your involvement that have made this class work, despite the, shall we say, less than ideal conditions. The good news is that of all of you who followed the course to the end, you have at the very least passed and, in so very many cases, done really well.
By now you will (should?) have received the notification from KSL with your grade. But just to  be "completist" you will also find your overall result here.
Congratulations to all of you and here's hoping that our paths will cross again in the coming semester, my last, and that the crossing will take place on campus!
All my best wishes for the end of this year and beginning of a new and better one!

Franz

Introduction

This page contains the material that we cover in the sessions of the lecture, i.e the PowerPoint presentation and the link to the podcast.
It also contains or references to it ("pages of  booklet"), which are required reading and study material.
All of the above, script, podcast and Powerpoint presentations must be covered, especially if students miss a session.

In the last column there are links to PDFs with excerpts from other textbooks which cover the same ground as we have dealt with in class, often from a different angle. It is useful for students to be aware of alternative approaches to the topics which the lecture covers, which is why such further reading is very important for an understanding of the concepts we deal with in this course.

The Script/Workbook

And here is a Word document and a PDF file with  the IPA symbols for copy-pasting if you have not been able(willing?) to install the IPA fonts.
